Training News:

A 4-day train-the-trainer institute on Program for School Improvement (PSI) was conducted by the newly established Provincial Training Development Unit in Anuradhapura from 24-27 February 2009.  It was attended by 32 trainers selected from 8 education zones and 10 master trainers from the Provincial Department of Education in the North Central Province.
PSI is a strategy by which significant decision making power is transferred from the central authority to individual school. PSI provides principals, teachers and parents a greater control over the education process at school in order to improve student achievement. This workshop is to train trainers who will train all the principals and deputy principals in NCP.
In her opening remarks, the Provincial Director of Education said that she felt like coming to an international workshop conducted in Europe or America. The workshop venue was organized in such a way to conduct many activities, including small group discussions, role play, simulation and brainstorming.  There were many types of teaching equipment such as notebook computers, printers, multimedia projector, screen, overhead projector, flip charts, whiteboards, iPOD, etc.  The setting was quite different from the conventional lecture-type workshops in Sri Lanka.
The participants evaluated the workshop very positively and said that they are confident to train all the principals and deputy principals in the province.  A few commented that it was the first time that they studied hard since they had graduated from universities. The details of the workshop can be found in the “Training Modules” and “Workshop Profiles” sections of this website.
