Welcome Message
I am very pleased to launch the Provincial Training Development Unit
(PTDU) staffed with 10 master trainers. It is housed at the Education
Development Center so that it can utilize the existing meeting rooms,
equipment and boarding facilities. It will be headed by Mr. S. M. R.
Samarakoon Banda, Provincial Coordinator of PSI.
According to the official letter issued by Mr. M. M. N. D. Bandara,
Secretary, Ministry of Education, each province should establish PTDU
so that it could implement programs for the quality development of education.
It is being supported by Asian Development Bank’s Secondary Education
Development Project II. The Project also assists the training in School
Planning, Leadership, School Improvement, Modern Teaching Learning Methodologies,
Teaching Learning Resource Preparation and Use, Science Education, Technical
Education, Library Development, School Based Assessment, Information
Communication Technology as initial fields of training.
The most effective strategy for sustained school quality improvement
is developing the ability of teachers and principals to function as
professional learning community. PTDU is established to provide training
to principals and deputy principals. It is my hope that all the schools
in NCP should provide quality education so that the students can function
as responsible citizens of Sri Lanka and contribute to world peace and
global economy.
This can be done through dedicated principals who will be able to manage
their schools in such a way that not only the students but also the
communities benefit from their hard work. I am determined to support
this important task, as PTDU will be an agent for school quality improvement.
I wish all the success of PTDU.
Mrs. S. G. M. C. K. Senavirathne
Provincial Director of Education
